  Community Visitors Scheme

The Community Visitors Scheme provides volunteer visitors to residents of aged care homes who are at risk of isolation from the general community. Community visitors visit at least fortnightly and provide friendship and companionship. The scheme is operated by community based organisations who receive Australian Government funds to recruit, train and monitor the volunteer visitors.

The scheme is available to residents in both low and high care facilities and covers rural and remote areas as well as metropolitan areas. It aims to :-
o To improve the quality of life of residents in nursing homes
o To assist residents to maintain their independence
o To enhance residents social contacts
o To minimise residents isolation from the community.

Volunteers are asked to set aside some time each week/fortnight to visit someone in a nursing home or to take them on an outing.
Volunteer visitors provide an important link between the residents and the wider community.
By sharing their time and interests, volunteers help older people to enjoy life more fully.
If you would like to become a Visitor in Bathurst or to find out more about the scheme, please contact:
