The role of a dementia care volunteer includes sitting with a patient on a one to one basis; talking to the patient; assisting the patient with eating and drinking; accompanying the patient with walking as advised by the nurses; supporting the patient with activities such as reading to them or playing cards. In short, it is a role similar to that which would be provided by a family carer.
